Guide

Everything about Splatties: how a match works, every power-up, coins, the shop and your progress.

The match

A match has up to 4 players on a board of 8 × 8 tiles. It lasts 90 s.

  1. Warm-up. While the room is not full, you can play freely. Nothing counts yet.
  2. Reset. When the last seat is taken, the board resets: all tiles become clean, all scores go to 0, and each player goes to a corner.
  3. Countdown. A 3 s countdown starts. You can already choose your direction.
  4. Match. The player with the most points at the end wins.

Move

  • Your Splatty never stops jumping. Swipe up, down, left or right to change direction. You can swipe anywhere on the screen.
  • It moves only up, down, left or right. It never moves on a diagonal.
  • At the edge of the board, your Splatty stops and waits for your next swipe.
  • You can turn back at any time.
  • Tap the screen to fire a missile, if you have one.

Paint

Each tile where you land becomes your color. This includes tiles of other players: you can paint over them, and they can paint over yours.

Remember: painting does not give points. Points come only from the chest.

Cash in

Land on a chest to cash in. You get points for each tile of your color on the board (1 per tile). Then all your tiles become clean again, except the tile of the chest. The tiles of other players do not change.

There are 2 chests on the board most of the time. A new chest comes soon after someone takes one.

The golden chest

  • Some chests are golden. They are more frequent in the final rush.
  • A golden cash-in gives ×3 points.
  • Its tile pulses for 3 s before you can take it. Then you have 6 s to land on it.
  • Only one golden chest is on the board at a time.

Cash in now or wait? If you cash in early, you get few points, but nobody can take your tiles. If you wait until you have more tiles, you get more points, but rivals can paint over your tiles and take them.

Streaks

Your streak is the number of tiles in a row that you paint and that were not yours: clean tiles and rival tiles. A long streak makes your next cash-in bigger.

StreakCash-in bonus
8 tiles or more×1.25
16 tiles or more×1.5
24 tiles or more×2
  • You can land on your own tiles 1 time in a row and keep the streak. One more, and the streak ends.
  • A missile hit ends your streak.
  • A cash-in uses your streak: it starts again from 0.
  • The streak bonus and the final rush multiply together, up to ×4. A golden chest multiplies on top of that.

Everybody can see your streak: a ring of fire around your Splatty. A big streak makes you a target for missiles.

Power-ups

Land on a power-up to take it. A power-up on the ground goes away after 12 s.

Chest

Changes your tiles into points and cleans them.

A rare chest that pays much more. It does not wait for you.

Speed

You jump faster. A second bolt starts the time again.

Missile

Take it, then tap to fire it the way you face. It stops the first rival it hits, and their streak ends. You can hold one at a time.

Roller

Its arrow turns. Land on it to paint a full line to the edge, the way the arrow pointed when you jumped.

Final rush and sudden death

Final rush

In the last 15 s, every cash-in is ×2. Power-ups come faster, and golden chests are more frequent. Many matches change in these seconds.

Sudden death

If two or more players tie for first place, they play sudden death. The other players watch.

  • The board becomes clean, and each player gets a missile.
  • After a 5 s countdown, a golden chest is in the middle of the board.
  • The first player to take 2 chests wins.
  • If nobody does it in 30 s, the player with more chests wins.

Play with others

Quick match

Tap PLAY. The game puts you in the public room with the most players.

  • If nobody new comes for 10 s, a bot takes a free seat. Bots play at the level of the strongest player in the room.
  • Before the match starts, a new player takes the seat of a bot.
  • Bots do not get rewards.

Private rooms

In FRIENDS, create a room and share its code of 5 characters. Your friends type the code to join.

Good to know: private rooms have no bots. The match starts when 4 players are in the room. Private matches give coins and mission progress, but no level points.

Connection problems

If your connection stops, your seat waits for you for 10 s. Your Splatty continues to jump in the same direction.

Leaving a match

If you leave before the end, your tiles become clean and you get nothing for that match: no coins, no level points and no mission progress.

Coins and tint

Coins

Each match that you finish gives you coins. You get more when you score more, and more again when you win.

Your first matches each day also open a daily chest with extra coins, if you win or lose. Open the game each day to collect the daily reward too: it grows over 7 days, and you can miss one day without losing it.

A new account starts with some coins.

Tint

Tint is the premium currency. You buy it in the App Store or Google Play. You also get small amounts free: from the daily reward, the season mural and the level road.

In the shop, you can change tint into coins. You cannot change coins into tint.

Not pay to win: money buys only looks. All players have the same rules and the same power-ups.

The shop

  • Daily deals: 6 items each day, 25–40 % cheaper. They change at midnight UTC.
  • This week: new items, and one item that comes back for the week.
  • Some items are for sale only for a short time. A countdown shows how long.
  • If you already have part of a pack, the pack costs less.

Your look

  • Skin: the look of your Splatty.
  • Paint: the color and the texture of your tiles.
  • Cash-in effect: the animation when you cash in.
  • Emotes: 4 on your wheel. Tap the emote button in a match. You can send one each 3 s.
  • Title, frame and card background: they show on your profile card.

Titles, frames and card backgrounds come only from the level road. The shop does not sell them.

Levels and the Splatty Road

Each public match that you finish gives level points. You get points for the tiles that you paint and that were not yours, for finishing the match, and for a good place.

Private rooms give no level points. A match that you leave early, or in which you paint very little, gives none either.

There are 100 levels with prizes: coins, tint chests, and exclusive items that you cannot buy: skins, paints, cash-in effects, titles, frames, card backgrounds and emotes. The Splatty Road shows your levels as a trip, from the meadow to space. You collect each prize yourself.

Missions and seasons

Daily missions

Each day you get 3 missions. For example: paint tiles, cash in chests, make a long streak, play matches or win a match. They change each day. Private matches count for missions.

The season mural

Missions give you brush strokes, and the strokes paint the season mural. A season lasts 28 days. The mural has 20 steps. Each step gives a prize. The last step gives the season's exclusive item, which the shop never sells.

Each week of the season also opens new season missions, the same for all players.

Account and settings

Your account

  • The game makes a guest account for you. Link it to Apple or Google in your Profile. Then you keep your level, coins, tint and items if you change or lose your phone.
  • Your name has 4–12 characters. A number after it (for example Splatty#1234) makes it unique.
  • Your first name is free. You get 1 more free change. After that, each change costs 200 tint.
  • You can delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete account. See the support page.

Settings

  • Colorblind patterns: a shape on each painted tile, so you can see who owns it without the color. It is off at first.
  • Mute emotes: hides the emotes of other players.
  • Music and sound: each has its own volume.
  • Language: the game uses the language of your phone: English, Spanish, French, German or Italian.

Questions

Is Splatties pay to win?

No. Money buys only looks: skins, paints and effects. All players have the same rules and the same power-ups.

Why do private rooms give no level points?

So that a group of friends cannot farm levels against each other. Private rooms still give coins and mission progress.

Can I play with my friends?

Yes. In FRIENDS, create a room and share the code. The match starts when the room is full.

Do I play against bots?

Sometimes. If a public room waits too long, bots take the free seats. A new player always takes a bot's seat before the match starts.

What if my connection stops?

Your seat waits for you for 10 seconds. Open the game again quickly to continue.
